Are you looking for a way to perk up your homeschool? Try celebrating some of these fun days in October!

Each month there are tons of national and world days to celebrate. Some days are fun and silly, while others acknowledge and bring awareness to various causes and people.

It’s easy to incorporate some of these dates into your homeschool day. Let’s look at a few dates for October and some ideas on how to celebrate them!

Fun Days in October

October is National Italian American Heritage Month. This is a great time to learn about Italian-Americans’ contributions throughout history like Mother Cabrini, Enrico Fermi, and Fiorello La Guardia.

October 1 is International Day for the Elderly and National Homemade Cookies Day. Combine these two days and bake some cookies for your senior neighbors. You can even organize a field trip to a local assisted living community and deliver cookies.

Week of 14th – 20th – Earth Sciences Week. This is a great week to add fun projects like creating a volcano model, studying weather patterns, and collecting and identifying rocks.

4th Saturday in October is Make A Difference Day. There are many things you can do for this day such as visting an assisted living home or donating food to a shelter. I want to encourage you to make giving back to your local area a regular part of your homeschool. Your children, even little ones, will learn empathy, compassion and a sense of community.

October 25 is World Pasta Day.  Tie this in with National Italian-American Heritage Month and enjoy an Italian meal for dinner.  Try this Creamy Chicken Cellentani.

10/26 National Pumpkin Day.  There are so many ideas for this day! Visit a pumpkin patch or print out this pumpkin spice wall art.
