Creating My Life + Biz Manifesto

I’ve been wanting to write up a business mission statement for a while and although I had some initial ideas in my head, I hadn’t written anything down on paper. I began with a brain dump, which is the process of getting all your thoughts out of your head and written (or typed) out in no particular order. As I got deeper into this, I realized the idea of a mission statement seemed stuffy to me so I created a life and business manifesto instead.

Manifesto; a declaration of your motives, opinions, beliefs and intentions.

Over the course of a few days, I mapped out seven points that were important for me to express. I chose seven because it represents my mother to me because she crossed over on 07/07/07 and I wanted to acknowledge her in this process. I sat with a large pad and my favorite smiley pen and wrote out my thoughts. I enjoyed this process because I always find clarity when I self-examine myself.

brain dump

I rewrote and crossed things out many times over the next few days, until I felt that the words I chose represented who I was and what I believed in. This is the finished (for now) manifesto, which has become my 7 Point Life + Biz Manifesto.

We do something similar to this at my job. And we post them outside of our offices. They are very effective with self-exploration and company communication. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Writing a manifesto is a great idea and something I should definitely do. I like how you included your love of chocolate on the list, I can relate.

I think we all need to take note into what are purpose is. I often wonder why I don’t do this more for my own business I am sure things would be more clear if I put it down on paper.

This is a great idea! I should do this before the beginning of the year, I feel like I could be more productive if I had better goals.

Joanne, This is a great idea. Sometimes its better to write your plan and see it. I love how you have everything separated, I am going to try this for next year.

This is really nice – a reflection of you. Knowing you from your blogs and your groups – I can see so much of who you are in these 7 Points.
