Vegetable Snacks For Kids

The key to making vegetables appealing to children is by presenting them in a fun and tasty way. You can also involve kids in preparing and choosing vegetables to increase their interest in trying new snacks. There are plenty of tasty and nutritious vegetable snacks that kids might enjoy.

Try making some of these vegetable snacks for kids the next time they’re looking for something to munch on.

Vegetable snacks for kids

Sweet Potato Chips
1 large sweet potato, sliced thin
1 TBSP olive oil
Salt to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Place the sliced sweet potatoes on a cookie sheet in a single layer.
Drizzle with the olive oil.and sprinkle with the salt.
Bake 10 minutes, flip and continue baking another 2 minutes or until a light golden brown.
The salt on these chips is optional. If you prefer a little sweeter taste, sprinkle them with a little cinnamon before baking.

Pumpkin Spread

1 (15 oz) can prepared pumpkin
1 tsp. cinnamon
¼ cup pecans, finely chopped
1 (4 oz) pkg. cream cheese, softened
Graham crackers

Place the pumpkin in a small saucepan.
Heat the pumpkin over low temperature just until warmed through.
Remove from heat and stir in cinnamon and pecans.
Allow mixture to cool slightly and then add cream cheese.
Mix well to combine all ingredients. Spread on the graham crackers and serve. This makes a great dip for fresh fruit also. Try sliced apples, pears, or even strawberries the kids will love it.

Edible Flower Garden

1 (16 oz) container of sour cream
1 TBSP white vinegar
2 TBSP parsley, minced
½ tsp. garlic powder
2 TBSP onion, grated
Radish slices
Cucumbers cut into rounds
Baby carrots
Celery stalks
Cherry tomatoes
Spinach leaves
Cauliflower pieces
Broccoli pieces

Mix the sour cream and vinegar until very smooth.
Sprinkle in the parsley, garlic powder, and onion.
Continue to mix.
Refrigerate until ready to use, at least 1 hour.
Clean and dry the vegetables.
Place them on individual plates. Use the cucumbers, radish slices, cauliflower and tomatoes to make the flowers.Use the celery sticks for stems.
The spinach leaves make great flower leaves.
The broccoli can be used to make grass.
Make as many different flowers as you like.
Serve with the dip and enjoy.

Here are some more simple veggie snack ideas –

1. Carrot sticks: Carrots are crunchy and sweet, making them appealing for snacking. You can also try baby carrots for convenience.
2. Celery sticks with peanut butter: Celery provides a satisfying crunch, and peanut butter adds protein and flavor.
3. Cucumber slices: Cucumbers are refreshing and easy to eat. You can sprinkle a little salt or a mild seasoning if your child prefers.
4. Cherry tomatoes: These small tomatoes are sweet and juicy. You can serve them whole or cut in half.
5. Bell pepper strips: Colorful bell peppers are crunchy and mildly sweet. Red, yellow, and orange peppers are especially appealing to kids.
6. Snap peas: Snap peas are sweet and can be eaten whole, making them a fun snack.
7. Edamame: These young soybeans are nutritious and can be steamed and lightly salted for a delicious snack.
8. Zucchini or squash chips: Thinly slice zucchini or yellow squash, toss with a little olive oil and seasoning, and bake until crispy.
9. Vegetable kebabs: Thread cherry tomatoes, cucumber chunks, bell pepper pieces, and other favorite veggies onto skewers for a colorful snack.
10. Vegetable wraps: Use lettuce leaves or whole-grain tortillas to wrap up sliced vegetables with hummus or cream cheese for a satisfying snack.
11. Guacamole with veggie dippers: Serve guacamole with carrot sticks, cucumber slices, or bell pepper strips for dipping.
12. Roasted vegetables: Roast sweet potato wedges, cauliflower florets, or broccoli with a little olive oil and seasoning until crispy.
13. Vegetable fritters: Make veggie fritters using grated zucchini, carrots, or sweet potatoes mixed with egg and a bit of flour, then pan-fry until golden brown.
14. Stuffed mini peppers: Fill mini-bell peppers with cream cheese, hummus, or a mixture of cheese and herbs for a flavorful snack.
15. Smoothies: Blend spinach or kale into fruit smoothies for a nutritious drinkable snack.
