Sentence Writing Worksheets

Writing a sentence takes more work than we sometimes realize! Young children are learning how words fit together while also thinking about letter formation, spaces, capital letters, and punctuation. That’s a lot to juggle when you’re just getting started. Having a little support along the way can make the process feel more manageable.

This pack includes 20 sentence writing worksheets for ages 5–8. Used once a week, that’s 20 weeks of practice, with plenty of flexibility to go at your child’s pace. It also includes helpful suggestions for using the worksheets with your child.

Each worksheet features cut-out word tiles and space for sentence writing, giving children a hands-on way to work with words before putting pencil to paper. Having words available to arrange offers a starting point, especially for children who aren’t quite ready to create and write a sentence independently.

Along with sentence building, these worksheets offer opportunities to practice word recognition, handwriting, word spacing, capitalization, and punctuation. These skills work together to help children make their writing easier to read and understand.

The benefits go beyond pencil-and-paper practice:

Exploring word order: Arranging word tiles helps children think about how words come together to express a complete thought.
Strengthening fine motor skills: Cutting out the tiles adds scissor practice, while handwriting gives children practice controlling a pencil and forming letters.
Building familiarity with words: Reading and writing words provides opportunities to recognize them in different parts of the activity.
Growing confidence: Working through a sentence in manageable parts can help beginning writers feel more comfortable with the writing process.

These Sentence Writing Worksheets offer a simple addition to your homeschool language arts activities. With time, practice, and encouragement, children can become more comfortable building sentences and putting them on paper.
