If you’re planning a family vacation in sunny Florida, let me share my amazing weekend at Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa with you. They graciously invited me, along with three other Florida bloggers to bring our families and experience what this full-service resort has to offer.
Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa may be known for it’s award winning golf courses, but there’s much more than that, especially for families with children. Sawgrass Marriott is located on Florida’s Historic Coast, made up of Ponte Vedra, St. Augustine and the beaches along the coast. There are many places to visit and explore in the area, but the activities and recreation at Sawgrass will have you staying close to your “home away from home”.
When we arrived on Friday afternoon, we greeted by beautiful landscaping, tree-lined paths, wooden bridges, and picturesque waterfalls. Yes, it was that amazing. We spent the weekend touring the resort, enjoying delicious meals, having fun, and making new friends.
I’ll share more of the scenic and food photos on my Instagram page because in this post I want to tell you about their activities and recreation for families so let’s get right to it.
On the resort grounds, they have classic games like putt putt golf and table tennis, which are great for some simple fun and laughs. Their family swimming pool is an ideal place to cool off and relax.
Want something a little more adventurous? Try the new SurfStream® Wave Machine, the world’s first standing surf simulator, offering seven wave types for all skill levels. You can surf or use the boogie board.
I live streamed while my husband and Mandy from A Cupful Of Carter’s tried it out. Click below to watch the fun!
[or watch on YouTube instead]
As you can see from the footage, the staff was all hands-on, giving lots of instructions and support along the way.
Another blogger on the trip with us was Diana from Tampa Housewives In The City. Her husband tried it out with the surf board and the boogie board. Her young son also went in it and did awesome!!
After all that water fun, kids can enjoy some down time in the indoor Mighty Oaks entertainment and play area. They can express their creativity through fun craft projects, unwind with a movie, play foosball and more. This is a great little spot for kids that struggle with sensory issues like my middle child did when she was younger. Sometimes the sounds and sights were overwhelming and a safe and comfortable space is just what she needed to regroup.
On Saturday we spent the day at the Sawgrass Marriott’s private Cabana Beach Club on Ponte Vedra Beach. It’s a quick shuttle ride from the resort and is open to all resort guests. They have kayaks, boogie boards, surfboards and sail crafts available to rent, plus a toddler pool right near the family size swimming pool. We had a beautiful day and an amazing lunch at the beachfront Sea Porch Bar & Grill.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they grow some of their own food and source locally when they can. I saw hydroponics and organic vegetable gardens being used, both on the resort and cabana grounds.
Speaking of food, I have to give their chefs lots of props becasue they are amazing at what they do, I enjoyed talking to them, especially Chef “Momma T” and hearing a little of their story. They all said how much they loved being part of Sawgrass and it showed in the meals they prepared for us.
They took very good care of the kids in our group and made sure they got to experience the best of Sawgrass. They had fun meals prepared for them and even helped them make their own pizza! Here are Jenn from More Than A Mom Of Three‘s beautiful kids along with Mandy’s son waiting for their pizza to bake.
In every way possible, Sawgrass Marriott made us feel at home and we have a terrific weekend enjoying their resort, the beautiful weather and of course, the people. That’s what these getaways are all about, enjoying life with family and friends. When you stay, tell them Joanne from Seasonal Family Fun sent you and say hello to Chef “Momma T” for me. 🙂
