3rd Grade Homeschool Schedule and Activities
Third grade is a year of significant growth—kids begin moving from “learning to read” into “reading to learn,” tackle more complex math, and start asking more profound questions about the world around them. Homeschooling in this stage is both rewarding and exciting because children are ready for more independence, but still thrive on creativity and hands-on exploration. A balanced homeschool schedule provides the structure they need while activities keep learning fresh, fun, and engaging.
I have been a homeschooling mom for the past 22 years, and I have another 9 to go. My best advice is this: go with the flow! If things are not going as planned, go outside. Or have a dance party. Or eat cookies. One of the many benefits of home education is that you can adjust your plans as needed.

A consistent 3rd grade homeschool schedule helps create rhythm and accountability while still leaving plenty of room for exploration and creativity.
Monday
Morning Starter: Journal entry + multiplication practice
Math: Review multiplication/division facts with flashcards or games
ELA: Read-aloud + vocabulary work
Science: Introduce weekly theme with a nonfiction book or video
Creative Time: Free art or music exploration
Tuesday
Morning Starter: Weather chart + quick-write prompt
Math: Multi-digit addition and subtraction practice
ELA: Independent reading + short written response
Science: Experiment or demonstration
Creative Time: LEGO or STEM building challenge
Wednesday
Morning Starter: Riddle or brain teaser + skip counting
Math: Multiplication practice with arrays or area models

Math

Use real-life scenarios like planning a grocery list within a budget.
Practice measurement by baking or building.
ELA
Keep a reading journal with summaries and reflections.
Write a letter to a favorite book character.
Play word games like Scrabble or Boggle for vocabulary growth.
Science
Conduct experiments (volcano, static electricity, plant growth).
Create a simple research project on an animal or ecosystem.

Third grade is a wonderful season for diving deeper into academics while still embracing curiosity and creativity.
