The main branch of the New York Public Library is actually named The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building and it’s located on 5th Avenue and 42 Street in Manhattan. It’s not only stocked with over a million books, maps, and historic reference materials, but the building itself is also a work of art, with amazing architecture, paintings, and statues.

The architecture of this building is amazing, let alone the incredible collection of books, maps, and other materials housed inside! I know I would love to visit!
Great pictures! I have walked by the library a few times but never been inside, so it is nice to see what I missed.
Wow, wow, wow!! We have a pretty decent library in our town, but I’m so totally jealous of this one. I could totally spend all day there!
Oh how beautiful! I don’t do wordless wednesday posts but maybe I should…these are lovely. no words needed.
Absolutely stunning! I love that you go out an explore so much! I’m going to have a long list of things to do next time I visit New York!
Wow, that’s a beautiful spot! Thanks for joining us on Oh My Heartsie Girl Wordless Wednesday!

I frequently go to this library and stay there for hours looking at the art work. When I was in college I enjoyed doing my class projects there, is such an inspirational place besides being a library with books (knowledge) lol
I adore this library! I think I could spend all day roaming this building if I had the time.
What an impressive building.
This was one of my favorite places when I lived in New York. It is such a beautiful building and you captured the details so well.
We are headed to NYC in the fall and I can’t wait to take my kids there.

Every time I see the NY library I think of ghostbusters. It is such a beautiful library inside and out. I never noticed that gorgeous ceiling.
This is one of my three favorite building in NYC. I’ve spent quite a few times in this building & I keep finding different things I didn’t see before on a previous visit. Thanks for sharing.
I love walking into that main branch of the NY Library – it’s so grand! When I first started working after college my office was near there. I would sneak in at lunch and find a quiet corner to read my newspaper & magazines!
Lovely photos of a gorgeous place! Would want to see this place if I can.
I was just in front of this library this Saturday – I have yet to make it inside. Next NYC trip for sure!
that’s amazing. hope to visit one day!
What an incredible building to house a library! Happy Wordless Wednesday!
It looks very beautiful and austere… but not very inviting. I guess that’s a challenge for older style libraries – maintaining that balance of regal beauty vs being comfortable enough that people want to spend time there (and do more than look at the gorgeous building!).
Hi Deborah. My photos may have given you that impression because I tried to get shots showing the library and not the people. Every room (and there’s a LOT of them!) had people either reading or studying. This is probably one of the most used libraries in all of NYC.
What a fantastic building 🙂
Have a readtastic week
That is a beautiful library. I really want to go there and spend a couple of days there. Great pics and thanks for sharing.
