As a blogger or business owner, you already know the power of Twitter (and if you don’t, you may be doing it wrong), but there’s no denying that it can be hard to cut through the constant stream of tweets that come through on a daily basis. Twitter gets 140 million tweets a day and although you won’t have to deal with that many, having a manageable feed will make for a better Twitter experience. Just by doing these two things, you can manage your feed so you see more of what you want and less of what you don’t.

1. Use the mute option.
You’re probably following more than a few chatterboxes on Twitter. If they’re tweeting about topics you are interested in, that’s great – but if not, you have the option of muting their tweets. This is a good alternative to having to unfollow them. Muting them stops all their tweets from coming through your feed – without them finding out.
You can mute someone on their profile, or when one of their tweets comes through your feed. To do it from their profile. click the small gear or the three dots near one of their tweets and choose the mute option. Use the same three dots when a tweet comes through your feed.
Go to Settings >>> Muted accounts, to unmute someone and view your list of muted accounts.
This is my daughter’s account. No Jacqueline, I’m not muting you – lol.
2. Use your lists!
This is the best feature Twitter ever added! The ability to group accounts together and view tweets from those accounts is the best way to use Twitter more efficiently. You can find your current lists on your profile, or by clicking the thumbnail of your profile photo in the upper right corner.
You can create or add someone to a list by clicking the small gear on their profile. Check the photo above and you’ll see it right under the cover photo.
Lists can be public or private. Public lists are great because other people can actually subscribe to them, but there might be times you want to be discreet. For those instances, private lists are a great option.
Another great thing about lists is you don’t have to be following someone to add them to a list! Use lists when you want to want to keep up with someone on Twitter but don’t want to actually follow them.
Just by doing those two things, you can manage your twitter feed and be able to easily find tweets you want to see.
I have a question about muting tweeters. If you mute someone’s account, will you still see their interactions with you? Such as if they tag you or RT your material?
A muted account can still send you a direct message and you will still get notifications if they reply or @mention you. When you mute someone it removes their activity from your feed. So the answer is yes, you will still be able to see if the comment or retweet in your notifications.
That’s one of my biggest issues with Twitter – the noise! Thank you for sharing at Waiting on…Wednesday! Hope to see you back tomorrow!

I use the list feature (a lot) but I don’t think I’ve muted anyone… I tend to block people, which I know isn’t the nicest!
