Hello again! This the second post in a four-part series covering the book, Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion, and they have sponsored this post but the experience and opinions are my own. If you haven’t read part one you can start here.
I’m almost four chapters in and so much as resonated with me so far. Always Eat After 7 PM uses the intermittent fasting method, which I have been following for seven months and have lost 25 pounds so far, with another 20 to go (remember, I’m 4’11” so an extra 45 pounds is a lot on my body).
I’ve never read any intermittent fasting books before this one. Partly because they don’t discuss how to eat better during your eating window as this one does.
I stop eating at 7:00 PM and don’t eat again until at least 9:00 the next morning which means my fast usually lasts 14 hours or 14:10 (fast 14 hours, eat 10 hours). I’m trying to increase it to 15 but I can’t seem to maintain it and have only managed to do it a few times a month.
It’s worked for me except there are times that I want a snack around 9:00 PM. Most nights I don’t allow myself to have one but some nights I do and it’s usually empty calorie foods like sweets.
Also, I’ve been struggling to make better food choices during my eating window and that’s where this book has been extremely helpful so far. I skimmed the whole book before reading it and there’s lots of practical information about what types of foods speed up weight loss and what to eat during intermittent fasting.
That’s exactly what I need because having never had a weight problem, I really don’t know how to think about what I eat. That might sound strange but when you are naturally thin, there no reason to consider one food over the other or watch calories.
The author includes what he calls mouthwatering fat-burning recipes and I’m looking forward to trying a few. I’m a pescatarian (which is a vegetarian who eats fish/seafood) so I’m going to try the Orange Shrimp and “Noodles” and also the Salmon & Lentils. I’ll talk more about that in another post in this series so stay tuned!
Another point he discusses is drinking more water.
Drinking water has been an ongoing struggle for me. When I had my dance + fitness studio I drank tons of water because I was teaching classes throughout the day. But now, I don’t drink nearly enough each day.
My issue with drinking water is I can’t wrap my head around drinking when I’m not thirsty! To me, it’s like eating when I’m not hungry. He actually discusses this in the book and it resonated with me.
I try.
I really do.
And I’m getting better at it but I have to constantly remind myself to drink water and of its benefits.
From the book (I’m taping this to my fridge).
Let’s learn more about Joel Marion, author of Always Eat After 7 PM.
Is the method in Always Eat After 7 PM difficult to follow?
It’s not. And that’s exactly why I wrote the book. While any diet is never truly easy, it can be more enjoyable and much easier to adhere to when you understand how Always Eat After 7 pm works because it caters to our body’s natural instincts.
Since you’ve written other books, what makes this one different than the others?
Although many of the concepts are similar, the biggest difference is that you don’t have to deprive yourself of your favorite foods. You don’t have to deal with the burden of eating every few hours. And you don’t have to skip the carbs at dinnertime or avoid eating before bed.
What motivated and inspired you to write this book?
After authoring 6 best selling books it was glaringly obvious there were 2 huge misconceptions about dieting that needed to be exposed. The first is that you can’t eat late at night or before bed, which science now shows is NOT true. And second, you can’t eat large portions that satisfy your natural instinct. This book solves both these problems by providing an evidence-based, enjoyable approach to dieting that can be used by any person to quickly achieve their weight loss goals.
“Always Eat After 7 pm is a three-phase program that teaches you how to lose big by strategically eating big when you are naturally hungriest—in the evening. This may sound too good to be true, but let me assure you it is no gimmick. It’s all about making strategic and smart food swaps, and you can still eat your favorite foods.”
Based on surprising science, Always Eat After 7 PM debunks popular diet myths and offers an easy-to-follow diet that accelerates fat-burning and allows you to indulge in your most intense food cravings: Eating the majority of your calories at night.
